Historic Downtown
There is plenty to do in our small town. 31 Shops, Studios, Galleries, and Antiques stores are packed into 4 blocks of Historic Downtown. Plus 11 restaurants and cafes! Want to stay awhile and look around? There are 7 cozy inns and bed & breakfasts here, most of them historic!
Lake Tomahawk Park
Part of the NC State Park system, this park, like our town, packs a lot into a small area. Enjoy wonderful views of the mountain ranges from one of the many benches scattered around the lake. Feed the varieties of ducks and geese that make thier home on Bird Island Sanctuary. Get some exercise walking the path, playing tennis, swimming, or on the croquet court and golf course. But don't forget to stop and smell the flowers int he Botanical and Community Gardens.
Hiking and Biking Trails
Therer are many trails leading through the surrounding mountains. Many allow for mountain bikes. Although sometimes the trails seem tough, it is worth the breath taking view once you reach the top! Not to mention the many varieties of plants and animals you'll encounter on your way.
Black Mountain Center of Arts
Local artist, crafters, and instructors offer a variety of ongoing seasonal classes ranging from music and pottery to yoga and gardening.
Swannanoa Valley Museum
The SVM chronicles the history of our valley. See artifacts from the Stone Age to Present Day.
Lake Lure and Chimney Rock
Both are just a short drive away in Hickory Nut Gorge. The quaint town of Lake Lure will remind you being in the Alps. The scenic setting has drawn Hollywood over the years. Many starts on the 30's and 40's used Lake Lure as a hideaway and more recently as teh location for filming Dirty Dancing. Chimney Rock Park is privately-owned natural scenic park and trails.
