Places To Go/Things to Do
The Waynesville area, established in 1809, is Haywood County's seat. Turn of the century buildings and brick streets are the setting for great shopping in Waynesville's many boutiques, galleries and specialty shops. Waynesville is experiencing something of a renaissance these days with new businesses opening frequently. A number of festivals are held throughout the year including the International Folkmoot Festival, Church Street Festival and the Ramp Festival. The Atlanta Ballet Company spends a week entertaining us with exhibitions and workshops. In addition, streets are blocked off twice a month in July & August for free dances featuring local bluegrass bands. Maggie Valley is known as the gateway to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, as well as having the most photographed view in the Smokies. Haywood County mountains are some of the oldest in the world. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails also open to horse riders and mountain bikers are featured. The mountain scenery makes a wonderful backdrop for a round of golf on one of our many excellent golf courses.
