Higher Education: Haywood Community College - www.haywood.edu is regarded as one of the finest two-year institutions in the country. With an enrollment of approximately 2,200 students, the school offers 442 programs, including such specialized areas as Forestry, Fish, Wildlife Management, Production Crafts, Manufacturing Engineering and a manufacturing certification program. Augmenting the college is the Regional High Technology Center, a $4.0 million facility geared to provide training in electronic and manufacturing technologies. Additionally, Western Carolina University in Cullowhee and the University of North Carolina at Asheville, both a part of the state university system, are a mere 30-minute drive from Haywood County.
